These low gluten, round, altar breads are carefully prepared as an alternative to standard wheat-based communion wafers, containing less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten – well below the low gluten food standard limit of 200 ppm. Each host measures 35mm in diameter and comes in a resealable jar of 50, ensuring freshness and convenience for parish use.
Low gluten hosts are preferred by the Catholic Church, which requires that altar breads contain some small amount of gluten. However, those with coeliac disease should note that Coeliac Australia recommends a completely gluten-free diet as the optimal treatment, and only consuming low gluten hosts if their religious convictions require it.
